Moving my post here from the last thread - I think the debate that we had before the gender group's presentation on Thursday was very meaningful, although I strongly disagree with the other team's opinion. I do not consider myself a radical feminist, or even a so-called "feminazi," but I think it is crucial for people to realize that gender inequality exists, and as women we need to deal with it every single day. It is completely unfair for women to be body shamed, slut shamed, discriminated against for religious or other kinds of reasons. I do not know if any of you have seen this on the news, but the state of Ohio has just passed an anti-abortion law that bans pregnant women from getting abortions if the fetus's heartbeat could be detected, which usually happens within only 6 weeks after the women were impregnated. This law applies to all pregnant women, regardless of the reason why they got pregnant - even if they were raped. The whole reason why they are doing this is that the conservative religious people think that fetuses are considered people as well, and abortion is murder. It is totally terrible and unfair legislators completely ignored the women's rights and forced their religious view on all people. The legislators also quoted Trump when they were trying to defend this law. I can only imagine how the feminists in Ohio are feeling right now, and I hope people realize that things like this could happen to all of us if we do not speak up for ourselves.
